THE ASK

The two biggest superstars playing in the Super Bowl are starring in our spot, but the NFL won’t approve it because of their partnership with Verizon. Find a way to use it.

THE IDEA

Scrap the entire social campaign we’ve been building, and release the “banned” spot anyways. Capitalize on the momentum of our earned media by incentivizing people to share the spot with a phone giveaway.

FREE THE GOAT

Releasing a banned spot is nothing new, but most of the time it’s something you plan for, not pivoting to 72 hrs. before the game. After two attempts to make our spot “acceptable”, we were out of time. We decided we had to #FreeTheGOAT (plenty of ideas around this that got left in the war room).
